The design is centered around showcasing the diverse culinary heritage whilst also paying homage to the Victorian Italian Renaissance architecture of the GPO.
Morena’s design was centered around showcasing the diverse culinary heritage whilst also paying homage to the Victorian Italian Renaissance architecture of the GPO which was constructed in 1928 out of local Sydney sandstone. Incorporating curved edges on the metalwork and stonework to reference the curves of the Renaissance arches of the GPO building, we also integrated subtle material references of reeded glass, warm sandstone tones, and heritage paneling found throughout the building.
The client asked us to create a series of unique dining experiences, where you can be seated at the bustling Bar to dine, or experience sitting within one of the curved bench seats next to a bright red heritage post box that is still in operation. The design of the Private Dining Room incorporates a series of sliding doors with green, orange and gold textured glass evoking a Cuban flair and sense of privacy whilst remaining connected to the main space.
